Glendalough - a Peaceful Irish Haven

•March 11, 2007 • No Comments

glendalough-stream.jpgOn a visit to Dublin, Ireland, a friend took me to Glendalough which turned out to be one of the most beautiful and restful places I have visited. I took the shot of the stream there with one foot on one rock the other on another and my camera perched on a third one. There is a little church there built by St. Kevin who formed one of the few places of learning in Europeduring the Dark Ages.    The whole place had a feeling of pride and learning about it.

On the way home we stopped at a waterfall with a view down a long glen.

Swans on a Misty Morning

•March 8, 2007 • 2 Comments

willows-on-a-misty-morning.jpgI happened to be out one morning near a small lake. There was an early morning mist which gave a mysterious aura to the scene.

As I was shooting the family of swans decided to come ashore.          swans-misty-morning-1.JPG         swans-misty-morning-2.jpg

moscow-gypsy-woman-ismailovski-park.jpg I saw this woman selling bed quilts at Ismailovski Park market in Moscow. I don’t know what part of Russia she came from but was attracted by her colorful clothes.

biker-and-passengerarizona.jpg I saw this biker on the way to Flagstaff, Arizona and couldn’t resist even though I was in a moving car and the biker alongside. It worked enough to get the picture!

cowboy-on-security-watch-sunset-blvd-hollywood.jpg I saw this cowboy riding herd on a building under construction on Sunset Boulevard. He very kindly posed for me when I asked him.

A Good Definition of “Composition”

•February 21, 2007 • No Comments

I am studying the book, Art, by L. Ron Hubbard and came across this definition of composition:

“Composition: Any or all of the actions necessary to integrate and give meaning to a message.”

L. Ron Hubbard

This makes a lot of sense to me as you can think with this concept rather than trying to remember a lot of rules that are really aribitrary. L.Ron Hubbard has a lot to say about the importance of integration in art and I found in applying these concepts I was able to greatly improve my shots - and my confidence about shooting too!

Rhythm in Photography

This is one of my favourite views in the East Grinstead, Sussex area. As you turn into Saint Hill Road on the way to Saint Hill Manor you see this view. It changes with the time of day and time of year. I love the curves of the hills as they add rhythm to the picture.

I took a bus from An t-Ob (Leverburgh) to Roghadal and found this shot of a wee white house across the bay. For once the sky was blue and the water too.

Visit to An Taobh Tuath (Northton), Harris

•February 20, 2007 • No Comments

During my last trip to Scotland, I stayed in Leverburgh for a few days and took a trip to Northton village, An Taobh Tuath in the Gaidhlig. I walked along the coast, had four beaches to myself and went as far as an old ruin called An Teampall, said to be an old chapel that doubled as a lookout against raiders in the old days. My camera was busy - a beautiful day! I’ve used some stills and the videos from my wee digital camera to make a video.
